Assignment #2: Perspective

Wow, everyone finished the first assignment so fast that I wasn't ready to go with the second assignment! This assignment will focus on perspective. Hopefully by the end of this assignment we will all be able to "think outside the box" a little more when composing a shot.

Here it is:

Pick an inanimate object (mailbox, stop sign, fire hydrant, etc.). Take 30 different pictures of the object. Every picture must look different from the others (post-production doesn't count - so don't try to pass off a black and white picture as a different shot). Get around, under, up close, far away-- whatever it takes to end up with 30 different perspectives of the same object.

Post 3-5 of your favorite shots when you have completed the assignment.

Bonus: Create a collage of all 30 shots and post that as well. Here's a short tutorial on creating montages in Photoshop.

Due date: Friday, April 10 at midnight

Assignment #1 Marianne

First name: Marianne

What you hope to do with your photography: I am doing this for posterity sake. When I first saw photographers personal blogs and how they captured there own children and just got hooked. I just didn't want bland boring photos for the rest of my life. I don't know where it will take me. I really can't see myself being a pro but I'd like to be just as good.

Photography education (past and future): nothing yet but I'm taking Jen's class.

Favorite photography websites/blogs:http://saraboulterphotography.blogspot.com/, http://www.canlasphotography.blogspot.com/ sometimes he gets a little too much into shooting garbage cans and stuff though., and http://artphotographs.blogspot.com/ ...of course.

Anything else you want to share: I am totally stoked, nervous, overwhelmed, and excited about this all at the same time. Just please don't judge me at how little I know.

Favorite picture you have taken to date: I don't know if these are my fav but one's I have worked on recently.

Scott actually took this one with our little point and shoot, but I thought it looked cool photoshopped.

Assignment #1 {Elyse}

First name: Elyse
Camera: Nikon D60
Lens(es): 18-55 mm
Other accessories: I bought a camera strap slipcover and a lens cap leash from Priddy Creations on Etsy. I LOVE them!
Photo editing software: Photoshop CS3
Favorite type of photography: Pretty much everything! I love taking pictures of people, landscapes and of course my favorite subject is Tatum!
What do you hope to do with your photography: I have always wanted to be a photographer, even since I was a kid. I one day hope to have a studio in my house and would love to photograph kids. The more I shoot outdoors the more I love it, so I'm sure I will do some of that too. I am pretty much up for anything but weddings! Weddings scare me!
Photography education (past and future): I went to a digital photography seminar in January and learned a lot of the "basics" and I am taking a photography course at Inkley's Camera in Sandy starting April 1st and it has 7 classes. I really wish that I was taking Jen's class, but the ones I am taking are FREE!
Favorite photography websites/blogs: I have probably 10 or so that are in my google reader but one that has been really helpful is photoshop roadmap. This site is filled with photoshop tutorials.
Anything else you want to share:
Favorite picture you have taken to date: I had a really hard time deciding because I have so many j/k, so I am posting two. Really they are very similar: the top one is of Tatum in St. George, I couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day. The second is again of Tatum at the Discovery Museum painting. The colors are so bright, and it just cracks me up when I see it!

Favorite type of photography: People. I love the idea of telling a story with photo's. That's my goal--simple.
What do you hope to do with your photography: I know my self better than to start this as business. I really just want to learn capture and tell a story with photo's. I want to have fun and learn something new.
Photography education (past and future): I took one community education class from UVU, it was lame and I didn't learn much. I've been reading and just playing around with my mom's camera. I am really looking forward to Jen's class.
Favorite photography websites/blogs: Today my two favorites are Tiffany Burke and Simplicity Photography.

Favorite type of photography: People!
What you hope to do with your photography: Like Carly, I want to get into weddings and not have to do any portraits and such... but we will see. I would love to keep a business, but I need to have a good balance and not be too busy with it, too.
Photography education (past and future): I think that so far what has helped me the very most is reading photography blogs and looking at pictures that I really like and want to copy. Plus Jen T. class starting this week!

Anything else you want to share: I am excited to learn as much as I can, this should be fun.

Assignment #1: Carly

First name: Carly
Camera: Canon Rebel XS
Lens(es): Canon EFS 18-55mm (the one that came with the camera), Tamron 28-200mm, Canon 50mm 1.8 (my FAVORITE by far-- I hardly ever take it off)
Other accessories: none :-(
Photo editing software: Photoshop CS4 and Adobe Bridge
Favorite type of photography: People! My kids, of course, but I love taking adult portraits, too. I definitely prefer outdoors. I'd really like to get into weddings (engagements, bridals, and wedding day stuff).
What you hope to do with your photography: Start a business and quit my job! One day I'd like to have a studio in my home, but I don't ever want to exclusively work in a studio. I also just want to take better "snapshots" of my kids and family for posterity's sake.
Photography education (past and future): I've read a lot of books and websites, but never had any formal training. Next month I will be spending a day at a one-on-one mentoring session with a local photographer, Sara Boulter.
Favorite photography websites/blogs: The Pioneer Woman, Digital Photography School
Anything else you want to share: I am so excited to start this! I think this will really help motivate me to improve and I can't wait to see what everyone else has to share. Oh, and I really want to get a background like this blog to shoot against. :-)
